Fourth Avenue Bible Church is a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba. As part of our membership, we submit ourselves to their direction, leadership, and if necessary, discipline rooted in our shared confession of faith.
Our specific church functions under a congregational model of leadership. By that, we mean that we take the Biblical idea of “the Priesthood of all believers” seriously. No one person may exclusively hold all decision-making responsibility. This model plays out in our context with three steering ministry teams, voted on by the congregation, that work alongside the pastors to lead the church.
The first is our lead team. They function at the highest level of decision making in the church by consistently seeking the Lord through Scripture and prayer in discerning ministry direction alongside the pastors. They also serve as the primary body for policy making in order to ensure integrity and maximum effectiveness in the ministry of our church.
The second is our trustees. They function as the primary stewards of our building and finances. Alongside the pastors, they prayerfully discern annual budgets and ensure financial accountability at all levels. They also attend to all matters related to the care and maintenance of the facilities God has granted us.
Finally, there are deacons. Our church has several deacon couples that work alongside the pastors in the spiritual and material care of the members. They are responsible for discerning and meeting needs as well as issues of spiritual accountability and discipline.
